Mumbai’s rejuvenated Cross Maiden Garden offers the perfect backdrop for the fifteen exquisite multi-purpose pavilions that form the much anticipated Indo-German Urban Mela.
Conceptualised by renowned international artist Markus Heinsdorff, the pavilions incorporate the best of Indian and German innovation and design. Over ten days, each pavilion will feature a dynamic selection of interactive presentations, conferences and cultural performances hosted by German corporations and organisations.
The Indo-German Urban Mela lies at the core of the continuing year of celebrations between the two countries, “Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities”. Central to this programme is a focus on ‘StadtRäume– CitySpaces’ and the challenges that both countries face with areas such as urban planning, public transportation, sustainability, education and urban culture. Programmes and performances at the Urban Mela will address these issues in a unique, innovative and engaging way.
The Cross Maidan Garden demonstrates an exceptional example of an urban space that has been reinvigorated and restored. Visitors are encouraged to soak in the environment of this transformed public garden that overlooks many iconic buildings in Mumbai.
