"Around the world, people dream about a land in which food is in abundance. In the Romanian countries, as well as in Germany and the Netherlands, a special version of this idea became very popular during medieval times: the fairy tale of Schlaraffenland, also called "Cucania", Luilekkerland" and "Cockaigne". Along with the pleasurable descriptions of culinary delicacies - roasted pigeons that fly right into one's mouth, streams of wine or houses made of cookies - another, rather satirical view on the subject established itself in the German-speaking areas: the idea of the Schlaraffen (meaning lazy monkeys). Poets like Hans Sachs described the drastic consequences of this unreal world, in which passivity leads to stupidity. Based on this the brothers Grimm and Ludwig Bechstein wrote fairy tales in the 19th century, which are still popular," says Heike Hanefeld.
Heike Hanefeld was in Bangalore earlier this year to conduct a workshop with kids from Bangalore schools.
After studying musicology at the Humboldt University of Berlin, Heike Hanefeld worked at the Opera House Halle as a dramaturge and director. In recent years, she has worked as a freelancer for various theatres, festivals and independent theatre projects. Heike works with the Konzerthaus Berlin on an on-going basis, where she mainly focuses on musical theatre for children.
