The Unwind Center, a long-term partner of the Goethe-Institut Chennai, is a community centre that focuses on developing artists and art forms. Though with humble beginnings, it is now an iconic platform for live music performances in India.
The Goethe-Institut Chennai has been supporting Unwind Centre’s endeavour to entrench a rock music scene in Chennai. The Indo-German Urban Mela offers a spectacular forum for 12 young Chennai bands spread over four evenings to showcase their talent.
The first band "Distortion" was formed in September 2009 and symbolises as well as "Ujjaini and Friends" and "83 Mph" as the new and brisk rock scene of Chennai. "Distortion" was once a school band. The main influences of the band are groups like "Green Day" or "Puddle of Mud".
Six guys find themselves in the same audio engineering classroom in Chennai and decide there’s too much music in them to let text books rule their lives! The band "83 MPH", since its inception in January 2011, has won "Hard Rock Rising" (which nearly took them to London!), "Channel V India" fest and numerous college competitions. The Band draws inspiration from legendary Artists like "Aerosmith", "AC/DC", "Pink Floyd" and "Muse" to name a few. All the band members hail from different genres of music which include Classic Rock, Progressive Rock, Punk Rock, Metal and Hip-Hop, which is evident in the versatility of their music. Fasten your seat-belts! They are going to take you for a ride.
Ujjaini and Friends will also perform at the event.
