Being a language teacher is a beautiful but quite a demanding profession, requiring a lot of energy and dedication. But besides that, it also means a never ending learning process, as languages are changing constantly and new theories and methods for teaching languages are coming up all the time.
Oftentimes, it is hard to stay up to date as well as to exchange with colleagues about ideas and experiences. Hence, the Teachers' Day Out will be organised by the Goethe-Institut Chennai to offer language teachers from different Chennai schools time and space for professional training and exchange as well as informal chats.
Teachers will have the opportunity to participate in some special seminars, featuring for example, the potential of non-verbal communication, body language, storytelling and theatre for language teaching. Additionally, there will be plenty of time to discuss methods and theory, share experiences and ideas with colleagues and talk about teaching-related difficulties and possible solutions. Most of all, the inter-cultural ambience of the Indo-German Urban Mela is just the setting for such exchanges, as after all language and culture are a continuum.
