Sitar maestro Asad Khan and the band Fusion Messengers will mesmerise the audience with a unique take on Sitar, crossing classical Indian genres with jazz, flamenco, electronica and folk. At the Urban Mela, Asad will be performing with the 'Fusion Messengers' who regularly play for A.R Rahman and are often on tour for many other jazz and world music festivals across the globe.

SKETCHING COMICS WITH BARBARA YELIN
Comic artist Barbara Yelin will create a sketchbook diary that will be hand-drawn and will document her discoveries and the people she will encounter at the Urban Mela. Yelin will also be holding a workshop for young people that focuses on city spaces and how to capture them via comics. On each day of the mela, there will be new updates from her Delhi sketchbook on the website.

Indian Ocean will light up the Indo-German Urban Mela with their performance on October 29th, 2012. Founded in 1990, the band is considered to be the original pioneer of fusion rock in India with a sound that integrates Shlokas, Sufism, environmentalism, mythology and revolution. Indian Ocean are renowned for their vibrant performances and captivating audiences; a seminal band in the history of contemporary Indian music.

The opening performance of Ignite! Festival of Contemporary Dance, MeiDhwani is performed by the Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts and choreographed by Jayachandran Palazhy. Derived from Tamil and Sanskrit ('mei' meaning body and 'dhwani' meaning echo or suggestion) the title subtly alludes to 'Echoes of the Body' or 'Memories of the Body'.
