Mahaphon Clang is the name of the first joint venture between Lautstark!4 and Ramesh Shotham.
Lautstark!4 (Vociferous!4) is a young ensemble, whose members live in different parts of Germany. Ramesh Shotham is a percussionist originally from Chennai who has been living in Cologne for more than twenty years. 'Maha' is a Sanskrit word, which means, great. 'Phon' is the physical unit for the perceived level of loudness and, well, clang is just clang.
Mahaphon Clang is an invitation to take a voyage through intuitive music worlds. The group is known for their talent for improvisation and experimentation. In doing so, they merge again and again into orchestral sound scapes, out of which driving groves erupt unexpectedly just to be dissected into their individuel molecules again. The Mahaphon Clang experience is a trip that bridges generations and is full of surprises.
In addition to the concert on the 14th March Ramesh Shotham and Lautstark!4 will hold a workshop at the Unwind Center on 13th March and play at the inauguration of a photo exhibition at a station on Chennai's Metro line on 14th March.
