The photography exhibition titled "Parikrama" is being done by 13 students from the Academy of Visual Arts (Hochchule für Grafik und Buchkunst) Leipzig, Germany, together with the students from the Photography Design department, National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad. The aim of this exhibition is to explore the city of Ahmedabad.

The initiative to invite 13 photography students from Academy of Visual Arts, Leipzig to work together with the students from NID’s Photography Design department has been taken by Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan.

The workshop will have a photographic focus on the city-spaces of Ahmedabad, as the year of Germany in India “Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities”, has the thematic focus on “StadtRäume – CitySpaces”.

The workshop that started on August 20th is being conducted by Prof. Heidi Specker (Photography Teacher at the Academy of Visual Arts) and Dr. Deepak Mathew (Associate Senior Faculty, coordinator Photography Design), and will conclude in an exhibition at NID, Paldi.

As if undertaking a Parikrama, the students "revolve around" in the city of Ahmedabad to focus on their different projects and try to understand and capture the essence of it.

The workshop with the students of the two schools has an open, wide artistic canvas. They are working on different topics like the River Project, birdcages in the old city, musical subculture, the roundabouts in the city, transportation and the meaning of nature in the architectural environment.

The workshop focuses on discussing the image-making process through portfolio reviews and group meetings. The final production will be refined for the exhibition.

It's first-time cooperation between the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and Academy of Visual Arts, Leipzig.
