The Logo

"The heading we chose for our special year: “Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities”, is not a mere slogan, it spells out a simple truth: Our opportunities are indeed infinite if seized jointly and in unison! They are soundly based on decades, if not centuries of mutual fascination, cooperation and partnership. The famous Möbius Strip, selected as the logo for the year of Germany in India, symbolizes this partnership brilliantly: No inner or outer edges, just an infinite continuum of interrelations on an equal footing."

The Symbol

The “Infinite Opportunities” between the two countries are visualised with the Möbius Strip, which interlinks the German and the Indian flag. The Möbius Strip in our context stands for an infinite bond and exchange potential between the two countries. It was first discovered in 1858 and developed by August Ferdinand Möbius, a German mathematician and theoretical astronomer.

The Motto

The motto of the year of Germany in India was “Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities”. The German translation is “Deutschland und Indien 2011-2012: Unendliche Möglichkeiten”. Combined, the symbol and motto create a strong and (self-)reinforcing message.
