SAP helps organizations run better. From back office to boardroom, warehouse to storefront, desktop to mobile device, SAP empowers people, businesses and even communities to work together more efficiently and use business insight more effectively to stay ahead of the competition and become sustainable enterprises.
The energy sector and system are undergoing an historic transformation worldwide. Also India, as the sixth-largest energy consumer of the world, faces challenges caused by steadily growing demand, electricity losses, power cuts and electricity theft. The aging infrastructure and long-term energy policy goals drive the need of transformation. This transformation has become known as “Smart Grid” because it is based on the pervasive application of digital information and communication technologies. SAP has a long history in energy industries as a provider of enterprise software solutions that have standardized business processes, and has been a key participant in Smart Grid development from the beginning
By helping businesses run better, SAP also helps them become more sustainable. SAP has also embraced sustainability internally. For example, in March 2011 the company launched an initiative to allow SAP India employees to own and operate an electric car at a minimum cost by offering an attractive monthly cash incentive and a host of benefits such as free charging points, reserved parking space and routine maintenance and service. This “Green Car Policy” is part of its "Future Fleet,” a global research program initiated by SAP AG to test the use of electric vehicles powered by energy generated exclusively from renewable sources.
